“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” — Carl Rogers
Have you ever asked yourself — how do I keep ending up here? Or, more frustratingly — I know how I got here, but even though I have that knowledge I can’t seem to go anywhere else?
I specialize in helping people become what they wish to be by compassionately embracing who they are. We are shaped by our experiences and sometimes difficult or traumatic events create patterned ways of being that, though feeling natural, keep us away from living a fully connected and meaningful life. Only by understanding and embracing ourselves are new paths opened to us in the road ahead.
Therapy is hard but it is also deeply rewarding, and sometimes just plain fun. Therapy is scary, but will also connect you with your empowered, brilliant self. I’ll be with you, supporting you, to wherever it is you want to go.
Perhaps you’re…
Feeling alone
Overwhelmed with anger or sadness
Stuck in patterns you can’t escape
Unhappy or hurting in a relationship
Feeling helpless
Lost and wanting more
Wherever you are is okay. There is good reason for it. And, wherever you want to go is okay too. You are the only guide that matters. I am here to support you on your journey with warmth, professionalism, and the urgency that your life deserves.
I can help you with:
Trauma
Couples counseling and relationship issues
Addiction
Parent-child relationships
Attachment wounds
My clients are:
I help adults, adolescents, families, and couples who are facing diverse challenges, including trauma, anxiety, depression, compulsive sexual behaviors, relationship conflict, and problematic substance use.
Off the clock:
I love to surf, rain or shine, swell or slop. I also write short stories and poetry.
How I help:
My goal is to create a genuine relationship that is both compassionate and honest so you may fully explore your being. Sometimes people begin therapy with me feeling like they need immediate relief and we seek to find effective tools and techniques to do that.
However, I believe lasting change is found through emotional contact with the deeper patterns and experiences that are at the root of continuing pain and discomfort.
In therapy speak, I have a psychodynamic approach with a traumainformed lens. I also call on existential and Gestalt therapy techniques as needed. For couple’s therapy, I primarily use Emotionally Focused Therapy, a revolutionary approach grounded in attachment theory and founded by Sue Johnson.
What my clients say about working with me:
Clients say that they feel safe, that I am perceptive and insightful, and that I really care.
Clients also have said that when I am direct it feels compassionate because I am being truthful about some part of them that needs to be brought to the light.
